English Smocking is defined as surface embroidery on a pre-pleated fabric.
In this class, you will choose between a sampler which can be made into a pillow, OR, a less involved baby bonnet project.
Maggie will teach you the basics from tying and basic smocking stitches and for the sampler: through advanced geometric stitches as well as a taste of picture smocking.
This class is suitable for beginner or more experienced smockers.
Dodi Poulsen: Panama Express – Mystery Quilt
A dramatic adventure awaits those of you daring enough to take the Mystery challenge. Dodi ‘s Mystery quilt will inspire & delight you as you journey on the ”Panama Express”. Learn new techniques as you construct this amazing & breathtaking wall sized quilt.

You will learn techniques for making Dresden Plates, machine applique and easy handwork. Don’t worry if you haven’t done these techniques before, Dodi will have you working like a pro in no time. Project will be stretched over a canvas for a polished finish. Crazy Quilt Evening bag:
Create a beautiful saber shaped crazy quilt bag using Judith’s centerpiece method of machine piecing. She will
guide you through the steps in creating this one of a kind evening bag. Learn to use the Victorian embroidery stitches and embellishments to decorate and enhance your project. This small but elegant bag is perfect for that special occasion such as an afternoon tea, wedding or other festive occasion.

Underwater Coral Gardens:
Create a beautiful underwater project using freeform embroidery and fabric manipulation. Judith guides you through the process of thinking like a painter while creating jellyfish, buttonhole anemones, net stitch corals, spider web starfish and many other techniques. This is a wonderful introduction to painting with threads and ribbons. You finished project can be matted, framed and hung with pride as a wonderful cruise memory. (This six hour project will be taught on one of our “At Sea” days)

In this technique based class, Patti will walk you through a variety of tricks for quick professional-looking borders, and cover her method for warp-speed binding. (Note: Class project will have different fabrics than these samples.) Patti Carey: Double Wedding Ring Approximately 36 x 36 inches. Using the simplified double wedding ring pattern in he book, Patti guides the class through the piecing of an updated version of this classic quilt. Participants will conquer their fear of curved piecing. We will talk about various fabric options and also discuss the “ins and outs” of binding double wedding ring quilts. . (Note: Class project will have different fabrics than these samples.)
